– Interesting N-GT preparation in 2004
– Genuine Ferrari race car
– The future for historic events
– Accompanied by a large amount of spares
– Participated 3 times in the Daytona 24 Hours
This Ferrari 360 Modena first appeared in 2003 in the form of a Challenge, built to factory specification and suitable for track use. However, it was soon modified to 360 Modena N-GT spec, based on the version developed in 2002 by Michelotto in collaboration with Ferrari to run in the Automobile Club de l’Ouest GT class and N-GT FIA events.
This evolution allowed the car to take part in international events above and beyond the typical scope of a Challenge. The preparation was carried out under the direction of Mastercar team’s Mario Crugnola, who used MCS Engineering in Maranello for the engine, and Ermolli Organizzazione Corse, in Varese, for the chassis. It was probably at this point that the car was fitted with various Michelotto parts, including the gearbox (which was not kept by the previous owner, however).
In this configuration and for Mastercar, the car participated in various GT events (in Group N or A) at some of the world’s top circuits. These included the Vallelunga 6 Hours in 2002 (8th), Spa in 2003 (23th) and Monza in 2004 (13th). It took part three times in the Daytona 24 Hours: in 2004 when it finished 36th, 2006 (58th) and in 2007 with Andrea Montermini (68th). For this American race, it wore the spectacular Ecurie Brums livery.
Stunning and racy in its red livery “Malboro”, this Modena N-GT has defended the marque’s colours in major events and fulfilled its destiny as a competition car, clocking up an honourable racing provenance. Eligible in Peter Auto, Endurance Racing Legends de Peter Auto, it offers fantastic performance, reliability and, compared to more modern cars, simplicity of use and affordability, along with the unrivalled thrill of being able to slip into the role of a Ferrari racing driver.
ARTCURIAL Auction – 1995 Ferrari F355 Challenge
French title
Chassis No. ZFFPA41B000101046
Estimation 150 000 – 200 000 €
All details about the auction HERE at artcurial.com
– Rare F355 Challenge with French registration
– Significant and documented recent expenses
– Exceptional track record
– The ultimate Ferrari racing car with mechanical gearbox
– Winner in 1995 and 1996 of the Challenge Ferrari Europe
– Ex-Lucien Guitteny
The model on offer is a Ferrari F355 Challenge, first registered on 2 March 1995. It was one of 109 units made of the type F129 AB. It is therefore one of the few exemples with French registration. This car has an absolutely outstanding track record, it was the Challenge Ferrari Europe West Champion in 1995 and 1996 with the talented driver Lucien Guitteny (race record available below). In the pages of Arnaud Meunier’s book “Ch.Pozzi, importateur Ferrari”, the charming French driver recalled his years in a Ferrari 355 in these terms: “We were always at the limit, at the breaker, the engines heated up a lot, but I never broke anything.”
The car was then modified to compete in the French Championship FFSA GT from 1997 to 1999, and then took part in a few competitions in the 2000s. Its previous owner bought it in 2010 for hill climbs during the seasons 2010 and 2011. It was notably raced by Jean-Pierre Jarrier during a round in Saint Gouëno. The car comes with a FFSA passport dated 18 June, 2010. This Challenge is in a “competition” configuration with its roll hoop, two Sparco bucket seats and a carbon spoiler. The engine was changed in 2011 for a similar one, which was prepared and serviced. The shock absorbers were overhauled at DA Competition.
Our collector, a passionate, like his father, about unusual Ferraris, didn’t hesitate for a second when the car was presented at Retromobile in 2017. It is worth noting that this is a 355 Challenge with one of the best track records in the world. Struck by its exceptional history, he wanted to restore the car to its former glory, and proceeded with a bodywork restoration including a check of the front part. This was done intelligently by the well-known garage Milano Racing (invoice of almost 26,000 Euros) who had the good idea of not doing a too flashy restoration and of keeping the stigmata of the competition past of the car.
Eligible in the Peter Auto Endurance Racing Legends, here is a unique opportunity to drive on the road and on the track a high performance competition Ferrari with a great track record.
