In 2000, Ferrari developed the 360 Challenge in just over 300 specimens (not to be confused with the Challenge Stradale produced in 1,274 specimens since 2003), for single-brand races and for various FIA championships, using standard mechanics, but with a weight reduced to 1,170 kg (120 less than the standard 360 Modena). In 2001, a revisited version of the challenge saw the light, capable of 415 horses. In 2002, the 360 began competing in major official championships, such as the FIA GT and the prestigious Le Mans 24 Hours.
To participate, the customer racing department had designed 20 specimens of 360 Modena approved by the FIA which had a lowered body made of carbon fiber, with a striking rear wing. The engine had been upgraded to 430 horsepower. To compete against the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, in 2003 the 360 GTC was developed in collaboration with Michelotto, capable of 445 horsepower at 8750 rpm, and with a weight decreased to 1,100 kg [3]. From 2002 to 2005, the 360 GT was manufactured in 30 copies; it originated from the 360 Challenge and was entrusted to private drivers who used it in the FIA GT Championship.

Developed from the Ferrari 348 GTB, the 348 Challenge could lay claim to being the model it all began with. The successful Ferrari Challenge came into being with the 348 in 1993, but the F355 Challenge took it to another level in 1995. It must be said, everything about it was more accomplished and more successful, from both a stylistic and a technical point of view. A huge commercial success, the F355 is the model some consider the last in the line of the 308, 328 and 348, which would come to an end with the introduction of the 360 Modena. Better looking, faster and easier to drive, it is of particular interest in the market for collectors’ cars, like its big sister, the 550 Maranello. Intended to carry on the spirit of the 1950s and ‘60s, when gentlemen racers drove to the tracks, the F355 Challenge returned to the traditions of its forebears. It is impossible therefore not to compare it with the Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta SWB!
Just like the model it replaced, the F355 Challenge was directly developed from the equivalent Berlinetta. Once again, the main mechanical components were retained for ease of use. But the exhaust system was lighter, a competition-type clutch replaced the original item and 14-inch F40-type Brembo brakes were fitted, with cooling ducts at the front and rear. There were improvements too to the cooling system, with an additional radiator fan, and to the car’s roadholding, with new 18-inch Speedline wheels shod with Pirelli slicks (245/265-18 at the front and 305/645-18 at the back) or Pirelli P Zero rain tyres (225/40 ZR 18 at the front and 265/40 ZR 18 at the back), as well as competition-spec springs and suspension bushings. The aerodynamics were improved by the simple addition of a prominent rear wing from 1999 onwards, which generated additional downforce and so increased cornering speeds. Finally, as for any self-respecting racing car, the carpets and sound-deadening were stripped from the interior, to save 165lb (75kg) on the scales. Otherwise, the steering wheel, bucket seats, roll cage, safety harnesses and towing eyes completed the array of equipment fitted to this resolutely track-focused GT.
This particular F355 Challenge played an active part in the Ferrari Challenge in England from 1995 to 1998 before Charlie White bought it in 2005. He competed with it in several seasons of the Pirelli Ferrari Open, mounting the podium on numerous occasions and regularly finishing in the top five. It arrived in France in 2015 to join the collection of its current owner. An amateur racer in his free time, he has since used the car for track days and, more recently, at the Circuit Paul Ricard for the Global Endurance Legends organised by Peter Auto in 2018. Regularly maintained, its substantial history file shows all the expenditure incurred and service work carried out since 2005. More recently still, just over 10,000 € has been spent to ensure that it runs perfectly. Last October, its owner had the car serviced, at which time all the fluids and filters were changed and the cambelt and tensioners, accessory drive belt and spark plugs replaced, along with the oil seal at the rear of the gear-lever linkage. In good mechanical condition, this F355 Challenge today has a little under 20,000km (12,500 miles) recorded.

This 2000 Ferrari 360 Challenge race car was reportedly ordered through Scottsdale Ferrari and campaigned in the 2001 Ferrari North America Challange Series. The car was refurbished by R3 Motorsports of Van Nuys, California, in 2004, and the 3.6-liter V8 was enlarged to 4.0 liters in 2008. The car was further modified in 2012 with the installation of a Hewland seven-speed sequential transaxle with a no-lift shift kit, an Öhlins tuned suspension, an adjustable brake bias system, a Michelotto Automobili GT-style body kit, Lexan windows, and BBS three-piece wheels. A timing belt service was performed by the selling dealer in preparation for the sale. This 360 race car is now offered in California with service records and a bill of sale.
The body is finished in white and features a rear grille, an R3 Motorsports carbon fiber rear wing, and covered headlights. A Michelotto Automobili body kit was installed during previous ownership and features a 360 GT-style hood, front splitter, fenders, doors, mirrors, and bumpers. Grand-Am Road Racing-spec side crash bars are fitted along with Lexan windows.
The 18″ BBS three-piece wheels feature 360 GT centerlock hubs and are mounted with Pirelli tires sized 265/645 up front and 305/680 out back. An Öhlins tuned suspension was installed by R3 Motorsports in 2012 as was a 50mm adjustable front sway bar, an electronic power steering system, and an adjustable brake bias system.
An integrated roll cage came standard on the 360 Challenge, and a single red OMP racing seat is fitted with a Sabelt multi-point harness. Additional features include carbon fiber door panels, a fire-suppression system, and a battery housed in the passenger-side footwell.
The dashboard and three-spoke steering wheel are trimmed in Alcantara, and a digital gauge display is fitted. The car has been run for less than 10 hours since 2012 according to the selling dealer, and total mileage is unknown.
The 3.6-liter F131B V8 was enlarged to 4.0 liters by R3 Motorsports in 2008. A stand-alone engine management system has been added, and dual 360 GT radiators are fitted up front. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Hewland seven-speed sequential transaxle with a no-lift shift kit. A tuned exhaust system was fitted in 2008, and a timing belt service performed by the selling dealer was completed in December 2020.

The 348 GT Competizione was a model designed specifically for the GT Championship on the 348 GTB platform. The car was radically lightened by eliminating all and any comfort-oriented features, including air-conditioning and mats. Its dry weight was 1180 kg complete with all of the safety equipment sported by the 348 Challenge version.
The transmission had a short 25/27 gear ratio and a racing clutch with reinforced discs. The brakes were derived from the F 40 Evoluzione with no ABS, but larger discs and calipers.Even the suspension was modified for racing with rigid rose joints, competition-ready dampers and springs. The standard car’s 17” wheels were replaced by 18” ones with 239/635/18 tyres to the front and 265/645/18 to the rear. There was no great difference, however, in the engine, aside from the free flow exhaust.
