The Cavallino Classic Car Show and the Return of Art Palm Beach Week

Palm Beach is the place to be during the last two weeks of January. Not only is the town buzzing with northerners who flock to the stunning city to escape the bitter cold, but Palm Beach is home to two of the most alluring events in the United States. The Cavallino Classic Car Show and ArtPalmBeach are both long running events in our charming community. If you have not been able to attend;

here’s a little of what you have been missing….

The Cavallino Classic 2016

The Cavallino Classic Car Show is said to be THE premiere car show in Florida. The Cavallino Classic took place January 20th – January 25th at the Breakers Resort Hotel in Palm Beach. Marking its 25th year, the five day event hosted Ferrari owners and enthusiasts with more than 400 classic and exotic cars from Europe and the US.

The Cavallino Classic Competition was the first event and was hosted at Palm Beach International Raceway, a 2.043 race track with 11 turns. The two day track meet included rare competition cars such as Ferraris, Alfa Romeos, Bugattis, and Maseratis.

The Cavallino Classic also featured the Concorso d’Eleganza. What a fabulous sight to see! Hosted on the magnificent and luxurious front lawn of the Breakers Resort Hotel, 150 Ferraris were showcased as they competed for Class Awards, Major Cups, and, the coveted Cavallino Cup for Best of Show. This year’s winner of the Best of Show Competition was Dana Mecum’s beautiful 1954 Ferrari 250 Monza PF Spider, and the Best of Show Gran Turismo Ferrari award landed in the hands of Lee Harrington for his 1960 Ferrari 400 Superamerica Superfast II.

Wrapping up the 2016 Cavallino Classic, the Marjorie Merriweather Post mansion, the Mar-a-Lago, hosted Classic Sports Sunday which featured the Automotive Romance of Alfa Romeo. Classics from around the world were displayed on the grounds, and Best of Show went to Jim Patterson and his 1924 Isotta Fraschini

Tipo 8A F Cabriolet.

For more information on The Cavallino Classic, or to see a list of all of the award winners visit http://www.cavallino.com.

The Return of ArtPalmBeach

ArtPalmBeach, one of the largest events during Art Palm Beach Week, returned January, 20th, celebrating 19 years! 85 galleries, from around the world, featured contemporary, modern works of art from the 20th and 21st centuries. The event was kicked off with an “invitation only” evening on Wednesday, and opened to the public on Thursday, January 22nd at noon.

The internationally renowned art fair was held at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. The county’s longest running fair celebrates the many areas of art from paintings and photography to new technologies and performance arts, with an emphasis on emerging art as well as sculpture and works on paper.

New this year, an on-site bookstore was added along with installation projects from the United States, Korea, and Israel alike. Some of the highlights of ArtPalmBeach included Fernando Botero’s Donna Sdraiata 1995 Bronze sculpture, Leipzig based artist, Hans Aichinger, and a lecture featuring photographer Robert

Zuckerman, and Shelly Baer, the Bold Beauty Project Director. Also featured, was Ted Barr and his Dreams painting series exploring dreams, human development, deep space, and universal unity from the Alessandro Berni Gallery in Perugia, Italy.

If you were unable to attend the ArtPalmBeach event during Art Palm Beach week this year, you won’t want to miss Florida’s Gold Coast art fair in 2017. Visit http://www.artpalmbeach.com for all of the latest news surrounding art events and exhibits around Palm Beach County.
