With Audi gone from the WEC, I can't understand why the WEC isn't playing up the Ford-Ferrari rivalry to keep up the great strides they've made in getting fans. Most people can relate more to the GT-PRO class because they may have driven the street versions and the WEC should be capitalizing on it making GT-PRO their top priority and promoting them as much or more than they did LMP1...now maybe GT-PRO will get the recognition it richly deserves....and the WEC's winningest driver in Bruni....PROMOTE PROMOTE PROMOTE!!!...

Looking Ahead To 2017, Part 5: FIA WEC GTE
The GTE classes in the ACO's top division continue to impress

The full Story from http://www.dailysportscar.com/2016/12/3 ... c-gte.html

As always there is much to talk about in GTE. The FIA WEC contest saw things come down to the wire in Bahrain but the undercurrent was all about one thing, Yep, you’ve guessed it Balance of Performance. 2016 saw adjustments across a nine race Championship into double figures, a situation regarded by many as farcical, and recognised even by those responsible for the current system as unsustainable.
One likely solution could be to de-couple the BoP process for the Le Mans 24 Hours from that applied to the 6 Hour races – factory posturing for Le Mans dominating the visible performance before June and leading to much recrimination in 2016. We’ll see!
The bigger news for 2017 though is that, for the first time, the FIA WEC GTE pro teams will be fighting for full FIA Driver and Manufacturer World Championships, a long-argued case finally won at the end of 2016, recognising the global nature of competition, the full factory nature of the teams and the current and potential growth of the Championship.
As recently confirmed another part of the puzzle that may well see major on-track changes is a major reduction in the numbers of tyres permitted to be used in Qualifying an the race for the 6 Hour events.
2016 saw six sets available to be used across the qualifying session and the race – 2017 sees that reduced to just four! That means that full double stinting is essential across the board, a major shift for the teams, and for their tyre suppliers!

Clearwater Set for GTE-Am Entry With Ferrari 488

Its the last years #51 Ferrari

Asian Le Mans Series regulars Clearwater Racing has applied for a full-season entry in the FIA World Endurance Championship to race a Ferrari 488 GTE in the GTE-Am category, it was announced on Saturday.

The Singaporean team came fourth in class in last year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, but has elected to enter the full WEC championship in 2017, becoming the first Southeast Asian team to do so.

Clearwater’s current driver lineup in the Asian Le Mans Series of Keita Sawa, Mok Weng Sun and Matt Griffin will race the 488 GTE, which will be dressed in a similar livery to its current car.

The program will be run by AF Corse, which operated the team’s one-off Le Mans entry last year, secured by winning the 2015-2016 Asian Le Mans Series.

“We’ve been thinking about this for a while, but it’s a big commitment, financially as well as time wise,” said team principal and driver Mok Weng Sun.

“I’ve been waving back and forth on the idea, and then this weekend I just had a good chat with the team and said ‘Let’s go do it.’

“I was actually planning on retiring from racing after this season in the Asian Le Mans Series; I’ve been doing it for 11 years and I’ll be turning 50 next year, so I thought I’d wind it back.

“But the lure of being able to race in the premier GT championship in the world was just too much of a lure, and of course I want to go back to Le Mans, and so to have a guaranteed entry as well as the ability to race on the greatest circuits on the planet with top rated teams, I just said – Let’s go do it!”

Added Asian Le Mans Series managing director Cyrille Taesch Wahlen: “It’s great to see one of our teams taking the next step on the endurance racing ladder.

“It goes to show that the Asian Le Mans Series is doing what it set out to do, which is to give teams the opportunity to work their way up to competing in a World Championship.”

Teams have until Jan. 24 to submit entry requests for the WEC and Le Mans, with the entry lists to be announced on Feb. 2.
