its difficult to guess if one of the F40 in the Picture became F40 GTE. For sure, the ones here on the grid are NOT in the GTE Version. also not full LM configuration as the front lights are standard and not in the LM Version as far as I can see in the picture. to me it looks like something in between. Many race F40 have been modified with LM Parts (some bought them by Michelotto but I now a few Carbon Manufacturer who have "copied" LM and GTE Parts) the Competizione was also the name for the GTE Version but sometimes also used for the LM version or teams/owners called their modified LM/GT Versions Competizione because of the partially usage of GTE Parts...

5 F40 GTE have officially been build
- 82404 (upgraded from F40 LM)
- 84503 (upgraded ffrom F40 LM)
- 85015
- 88779
- 90001

some sources also list other chassis numbers as GTE Versions but if you look at the cars there are still LM Versions and not upgraded GTE Versions.

The GTE is the most extreme version of the F40. Sequential Gearbox, heavy modified Aero etc.

even within the 5 cars there are different versions as some teams constantly developed them further with Michelotto and some other cars remain. this is also the case for all GT Versions. many of them have been modified, upgraded by the race teams. sometimes with Michelottos support, often without...

the first picture shows the GTE Version while the second one is the LM Version. main different you can identify is the rear wing.

6 GTE have been built if you include the prototype #74045 converted to GTE specs.
Only 3 of them were fitted with the Evo package consisting of a sequential gearbox, carbon brakes and bigger engine (3.5 or 3.6). Some received some evo but not all, like #74045 at Le Mans which had a 3.5 engine but the normal dogleg gearbox and steel brakes.
