Looks cool, the Optey 348 Challenge

The GTB was the last version of the 348 coupe to be built. Subtle changes were incorporated to improve the styling, suspension geometry, chassis and engine power over the previous 348 TB model. One of only 252 produced this particular GTB chassis 98542 was purchased new in early 1994 by Mr. M Oprey through the famous Dutch Ferrari importer Kroymans. The car was immediately converted to Ferrari Challenge specification using the Ferrari supplied Challenge kit by DLR Tuning in Holland for the 1994 race season. It then raced in the European Ferrari Challenge Championship 1994-1995 without incident. The majority of the original 348 Challenge cars were converted from 348 TB or TS cars making this GTB example extremely rare.

The 348 Challenge cars were the first in the line of the Ferrari Challenge models which are still being produced to this day. As an important part of modern Ferrari history genuine Challenge cars with period racing history are now becoming increasingly sought after. This unmolested car has covered 10,067km and is complete with its original warranty manual, Ferrari supplied 348 Challenge Press photographs/documents and 348 GT Owner’s manual. The 348 Challenge is one of the last Ferraris to offer a pure driving experience with no power assistance or electronic aids; equally at home on the road or on the track.

The proposed car is a prestigious Ferrari 348 TS Challenge 1992, one of only two “pre-series” made.

From this event, starring this car, started the famous Ferrari Challenge series.

This 348 was the true promoter of the series and Ferrari itself was inspired by this first “race set-up” (first prototype of a roll-bar, seats, seat belts, headlights cover etc.) to realize later the “official 348 challenge” kit, supplied by Ferrari same to be able to participate in further competitions.
In 1993 the car was set up with the official challenge kit and participated in the 348 Challenge circuit with the Nr. 12, followed and sponsored by the dealer Sa.Mo.Car.

As much as it pains me to say this, after almost 6 years I am seriously considering selling my 348CH "Factory Challenge" car, #098791- it is #26 of 32 made. It is my second 348CH (I previously owned #94285 for a number of years), and I've loved owning it, but at 65 years old and with increasing orthopedic issues, I am using it less and less, so maybe it's time . . .
I'll post details soon, but for the moment I'll simply say that it is in great mechanical and cosmetic condition (complete "major service" by renowned mechanic Tim Stanford 7 months ago), and is titled and tagged in Florida, driven many times to/from track events at Sebring, Homestead and Palm Beach International Raceway.
Although I keep the car in Florida, I live 1,000 miles away- another reason it is used less than I'd like. I should probably trade it for a street Ferrari- at least that would get more regular use!
I'll be in Palm Beach for the Cavallino Classic in a few weeks (my 27th year in a row- I've attended every one!) in case anyone would like to see it and, as I said, I'll post details soon. In the meantime, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!
