I have an 81 308 GTSi and ready for restoration. Was ready to replace the old OV cams- worn lobes and mushroomed tappets, but mechanic has a 328 QV engine for sale in great shape and recommends I swap engines.

Hi
Swapping engine is never a good idea for a Ferrari. The 81 308 GTSi is definitely the least appreciated 308 available. So, one could argue, that there is not much to loose. Investing into a 308 GTSi engine resto might anyway be a loss today. Nevertheless I would rather not swap the engine, as you won't be able to sell it afterwards.
There has been a recent auction with a 308 QV that has been donated a V12 engine - and it sold very cheap, much cheaper than an unmodified 308 QV would do:

Would you upgrade your 308 2V to a 328 QV?
