This is NOT one of the more common ’96 spec challenge cars which were built up by dealers from a road car with a race kit and now stripped and returned to the road. It was developed and tested at Fiorano then delivered in full race car form from the factory and has many unique Ferrari performance evolved parts.

The ’99 spec is undoubtedly the most evolved and desirable 355 available. As Octane describe, this is the nearest you can get to the missing 355 that should sit between the 348GTC and the 360CS. This could well be the last chance to own a street legal Ferrari race car at an obtainable price, its values are bound to rise steeply in the future.

Having had a creditable life in UK/European Challenge, it has been sensibly tweaked to make it the ultimate road and track toy (it can easily be returned to full race). Fiorano springs setup give a smooth usable ride on uk roads, Pirelli road tyres, popup headlights (it came with headlight blanking plates), indicators, handbrake, tow loops removed and horn all make it as easy to drive as any other 355 on the road.

The drive is epic, it still retains its massive F40LM derived Brembo brakes, competition clutch and fast steering rack. Currently it has the full race exhaust system which sounds unbelievable, popping and shooting flames on over-run. However it does come with two other less aggressive exhaust options.

The car is in as raced condition and thus retains its full race decals and ‘race patina’ (dinks and dings and all). The Interior is also unrestored, retaining its cage, extinguisher system, carbon fibre door cards, reverse lock, challenge steering wheel, harnesses and two OMP WRC race seats.

As it stayed in Ferrari Challenge all its life the car is very genuine and has not been stripped or ‘messed’ with by race teams to gain performance, as far as I can tell it retains all of its original unique Ferrari parts which can be very difficult to source if missing.

The car has had full engine out service, belts and competition clutch last year by a recognised Ferrari independent. Along with this a number of parts were replaced or refurbished.

I have a book of receipts (££££) from its racing days, including photos, copies of Octane etc.

First driver John Seale, won race(s),recorded as the first car to have a 100mph lap (John is still racing in Ferrari Challenge), spa, imola, ring, Silverstone, etc. Second driver Kevin Wilkins, open/challenge. Third driver (I bought the car off) Mike Furness, open/challenge & GT3 Bahrain,

Last raced at Ferrari racing days in open/challenge 2012
